What is Favipiravir?

Favipiravir is the first FDA-approved oral treatment of COVID-19.

Favipiravir belongs to the class of antiviral medicines. In 2021, Favipiravir received approval to treat mild to moderate coronavirus disease. This medication is additionally prescribed for treating Ebola, influenza, and other deadly viral diseases. It decreases virus load in the body and helps in the treatment of the infection.

Before using this drug, inform the doctor of everything you know about your medical history and current medications. You can get diarrhea and other psychological issues after using this medication.

Purpose: Favipiravir belongs to a group of antiviral medicines used to treat coronavirus disease. Besides this, Favipiravir is also recommended for treating Ebola, flu, and other severe viral diseases.

When to use?

  • Use to treat adults with mild to moderate COVID-19 disease.
  • Use to treat Influenza, Ebola, and other harmful viral diseases.

Dosage:

  • Covid-19:

Day 1: 1800mg BD (Twice Daily)

Day 2: to Day 14: 800mg (Twice Daily)

Influenza:

Day 1: 1600mg (Twice Daily)

Day 2: to Day 5: 600mg (Twice Daily)

Advice to patients:

  • Store at room temperature (up to 30°C)
  • Not advised for mothers who are pregnant or lactating.
  • Be careful while driving, operating machinery and doing tasks that require alertness.

Contraindications:

  • Not recommended to patients with severe kidney or liver disorders.
  • Allergic to Favipiravir or any other ingredient of the medicine.
  • Not recommended for children.
