What is Letrozole?

Letrozole is an aromatase inhibitor used to induce ovulation in patients with irregular menses or no menses at all. Letrozole works to induce ovulation by blocking estrogen production, leading to increases in follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) release.

This medication is used to treat specific forms of breast cancer in women who have undergone menopause, such as hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer. It is also used to stop cancer from returning. An organic hormone called estrogen encourages the growth of some breast cancers. Letrozole helps to reduce or stop the growth of certain breast cancers by reducing the amount of estrogen the body produces.

Purpose: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or problems with ovulation, and Breast cancer is treated with Letfer (letrozole). It may also lower the chance of breast cancer developing. Tablets of Letfer (letrozole) are available only with a prescription.
