Description

Dexlansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor used to help gastrointestinal ulcers heal, to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), to eradicate Helicobacter pylori, and to treat hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.

Dosage and Administration:

For The Treatment of Erosive Esophagitis:

1. Capsule: Indicated for healing of all grades of erosive esophagitis (EE) and maintaining healing of EE
2. ODT: Indicated for maintaining healing of EE
3. Healing (capsule): 60 mg PO once a day for up to eight weeks
4. Maintenance (capsule or ODT): 30 mg PO once a day for up to six months

For The Treatment of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease:

1. Indicated for treating heartburn associated with symptomatic non-erosive GERD
2. Capsule or ODT: 30 mg PO once a day for four weeks

Dosage Modifications

Hepatic impairment

1. Milde (Child-Pugh A): Dose adjustment not necessary
2. Moderate (Child-Pugh B): Not to exceed 30 mg/day
3. Severe (Child-Pugh C): Not recommended

Precautions

1. May interfere with absorption of drugs for which potential hydrogen is a determinant of oral bioavailability.
2. Proton pump inhibitors may decrease the efficacy of clopidogrel by reducing the formation of the active metabolite.
